CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Husson University 2-1, on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Ritchie Field.
Ike Doiron (Wilton, Maine) put the Mariners on the board in the 25th minute when he beat Husson's goalie Cody Gross on a penalty kick, but the Eagles responded in the 32nd minute to tie it up at 1-1, on a goal from Nathan Firlings.
Nick Whitehead gave Husson the 2-1 lead, and the eventual game-winning goal, in the 43rd minute on a pass from Firlings.
The Mariners pressured late in the game but could not score an equalizer.
Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) recorded three saves in the loss for the Mariners, while Gross stopped two shots in the victory for Husson.
The Mariners fall to 1-5-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the NAC, while the Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday when they host Johnson State College at 1:00 pm.
