FARMINGTON, Maine – Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) tallied a hat-trick to lead Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer to a 5-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory on Tuesday afternoon at Leib Field.
Caron tallied goals in the 18th minute and the 25th minute to send the Mariners into halftime with a 2-0 advantage and picked up where he left off in the second half in the 64th minute, securing the hat trick.
Dylan Labun (Belgrade, Maine) added his second goal of the season just a minute later in the 65th minute and Evan Backus (Farmington, Maine) added his first goal of the season capped off the scoring in the 77th minute to close out the scoring for the Mariners.
The Mariners held a 13-10 advantage in shots, and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Maine Maritime's Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) tallied four saves in the victory, while Matt Wilson stopped just one shot in the loss for the Beavers in nearly 73 minutes in net.
With the win, the Mariners improve to 3-8 overall and 2-3-2 in the NAC, while the Beavers fall to 8-7 on the season and 3-4 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday at 2:30 pm against Castleton and Sunday at 2:30 pm against Green Mountain to wrap up their regular season.
