Men’s Soccer Drops NAC Game to Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Castleton University 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at Spartan Stadium.

Fidele Rutayisire put the Spartans on the board in the sixth minute on an unassisted strike and Seraphin Iradukunda doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute. Iradukunda added his second goal of the game in the 44th minute to send the Spartans into halftime with a 3-0 lead and Castleton added three more goals in the second half to claim the 6-0 victory.

Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) and Ike Doiron (Wilton, Maine) led the Mariners with a shot on goal each.

Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) stopped seven shots in the loss for the Mariners, while Aaron Parker earned the victory in net for the Spartans, tallying two saves in nearly 71 minutes of play. 

The Mariners fall to 3-9-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the conference, while the Spartans improve to 9-6 on the season and 7-0-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime will look to bounce back tomorrow at 2:30 pm against Green Mountain College in the final game of the regular season.
