Mariners Upset Thomas to Advance to NAC Semifinals

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer scored two late-game goals to fight back from a 1-0 deficit and defeat Thomas College 2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinals on Sunday. 

With the win the sixth-seeded Mariners improve to 5-9-3 overall and advance to the face the second seed, Colby-Sawyer College in the NAC Semifinals on Wednesday. The Terriers conclude their season at 8-9-1.

Thomas College struck in the 31st minute when Tevin Reid passed a through ball to Adam Labrie who bounced his shot off a Mariner defender to make it 1-0.

Maine Maritime's Ike Doiron (Wilton, Maine) tied the game up at 1-1 in the 78th minute when he headed in a corner kick from Colby Clarke (Ellsworth, Maine).

Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) came up big for the Mariners in the 85th minute when he made a save on a shot by Zenawi Bowen to keep it at 1-1.

Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, Maine) tallied the game-winner for the Mariners in the 87th minute when he placed a deep shot in the top left corner just out of reach of the Thomas keeper, John Villanueva.

Reeks tallied seven saves in the victory for the Mariners, while Villanueva made three saves in the loss for Thomas College.

Thomas outshot Maine Maritime 23-16 while the Mariners held a 6-4 advantage in corners.
