CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to the University of Southern Maine, 3-0 on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
The Mariners fall to 0-2, while the Huskies improve to 1-1-1. Maine Maritime heads to Norwich University to take on the Cadets on Friday, September 7 at 4:00 pm and SUNY Maritime on Saturday, September 8 at 2:00 pm.
The Huskies jumped on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when Ibrahim Mohamed placed a ball over a defender to Benjamin Musese, who beat a charging Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) for the goal.
Southern Maine outshot the Mariners 14-5 in the first half.
Musese added his second goal of the game in the 59th minute to give the Mules a 2-0 advantage and secured the hat trick with a goal in the 88th minute, when he played a ball from his teammate and placed a curving ball into the net by Coleman.
The Huskies held a 25-13 advantage in shots.
Maine Maritime's Coleman tallied 10 saves in the loss, while USM's Charlie Mull collected one save in the win.
