CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer cruised to a dominating 11-1 victory over UMaine-Machias on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
With the victory the Mariners improve to 2-3-1 overall, while the Clippers fall to 0-6 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action this Saturday, September 22 at SUNY-Canton for a NAC matchup at 2:30 pm.
Colby Clarke (Ellsworth, Maine) put the Mariners on the board in the third minute with his first goal of the season, and the Mariners added nine more goals to take a 10-0 advantage at halftime.
The Mariners added a goal in the second half, and the Clippers got on the board in the 77th minute to close out the scoring.
Gerald Aquino (Montville, Conn.), Andrew King (Thomaston, Maine), Noah Pratt (Greenville, Maine), and Liam Welch (Temple, Maine) led the Mariners with two goals each, while Clark, Jack Davis (Belfast, Maine), and Jacob Sturgess (Topsham, Maine) added the other goals. Aquino, Jesse Pelletier (Mexico, Maine) and Clayton Preble (Milo, Maine) each chipped in with two assists.
Abdalla Mostafa added the lone goal for the Clippers.
Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) earned the victory in net for the Mariners tallying two stops, while Dominic Kane and Devonte Stevens combined for 10 saves in net for the Clippers.
