CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Bates College, 4-0 on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
Maine Maritime drops to 4-5-1 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 6-3 on the season. The Mariners return to action on Monday, October 8 when they host UMaine-Fort Kent at 3:00 pm for a non-conference matchup.
Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) had the Mariners' best chance in the first half when he broke away from his defender, but his play ahead went too far and Bobcat keeper David Goodstein charged out of net and broke up the opportunity.
The Bobcats held a 13-4 shot advantage in the first half.
Peder Bakken broke the scoreless battle on a penalty kick in 48th minute and less than 10 minutes later Ben Lyons grabbed a goal for the Bobcats to make it 2-0.
Drew Parsons tallied a goal at 63:00 to put Bates up 3-0 and Austin Sansone snuck a deflected ball into net to make it 4-0 in the 71st minute.
Bates outshot the Mariners 29-6 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Maine Maritime's Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) recorded 12 saves in the loss, while Goodtein ended the evening with two saves in the victory for Bates.
