CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Colby College 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
The Mules evened the score in the 54th minute, when Ethan Fabricant snuck a ball into the lower left corner of the net.
The two teams exhausted regulation and ended the first overtime deadlocked at 1-1, but the Mules tallied the game-winner in the 105th minute on the foot of Asa Berolzheimer.
Maine Maritime's Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) stopped all three shots he faced in the first half, and Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) tallied two saves in nearly 60 minutes of action. Colby's Matt Morin collected two saves in the first half and teammate Stanley Clarke earned the victory with almost 60 shutout minutes.
Colby edged Maine Maritime in shots 15-10.
With the loss the Mariners fall to 2-1-1 overall, while Colby improves to 2-1.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when they host Husson University at 1:00 pm for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener as part of Soccer Friends/Family/Alumni Day.
