Men's Soccer Stumbles Against Broncos

DELHI, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to SUNY Delhi, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Mariners fall to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NAC, while the Broncos improve to 4-3-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Monday night, when they host Unity College for a non-conference matchup at 8:00 pm. 

Juan Velez put the Broncos up 1-0 in the 21st minute when he snuck a penalty kick past Maine Maritime's Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine). The hosts struck again, just over seven minutes later when John Cabrera found teammate Denzel Monexant in the 28th minute to make it 2-0.

SUNY Delhi added another penalty kick goal late in the game, this time from Brody Rettle and held off the Mariners for the 3-0 win.

Gray stopped 10 shots in the loss, while Corey O'Toole stopped all nine shots he faced to earn the win for the Broncos.

Matt Caron (Scarborough, Maine) led the Mariners with seven shots, four on goal and teammate Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, Maine) landed two of his seven shots on net.

The Broncos outshot the Mariners 25-19 overall, and took seven corner kicks to the Mariners' five.
