FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 2-1, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match-up on Saturday afternoon.
Both team battled to a scoreless first half, in which freshman Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) made four saves. The scoreless tie was broken in the 56th minute when Farmington's Cade McHugh put one past Gray to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
That lead held on for the next 16 minutes, when Reuben Harrison (Heidelberg, Germany) found Matt Caron (Scarborough, Maine) to tie the game back up at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. Liam Welch (Temple, Maine) scored the eventual game winner in the 86th minute, when Caron found him to put the Mariners up 2-1.
Gray picked up the win for the Mariners, making six saves on seven shots on goal. Farmington's Bradley Neal made five saves on seven shots on goal in the loss. The Mariners improve to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the NAC, while UMF drops to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the NAC.
Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, October 5th, when they host SUNY Canton in a NAC matchup on Ritchie Field at 12:00pm.
