CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell 4-1 to Thomas College in Sunday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship game at Ritchie Field.
With the loss, the Mariners finish the season 13-4-1 overall, tying a program record for wins in a single-season, the Terriers improve to 10-8-1 overall with the win. Thomas College advances to the 2019 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament and will learn who they face in the first round during the NCAA selection show on Monday, November 10th at 1:30 pm.
Thomas' Josh Irving found MacQuille Walker cutting through the 18 for a one timer that beat Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) in the 19th minute to make it 1-0. Terriers' Zenawi Bowen found Walker on a through ball that he buried far netting in the 25th minute, making the lead 2-0. Thomas' Princiel Kunieki extended the Terriers lead when he headed in a free kick crossed by Walker, making it 3-0 in the 36th minute.
Eric LaBrie dribbled past three Mariner defenders in the 49th minute and scored far netting to give the Terriers a 4-0 lead early in the second half. Matt Caron (Scarborough, Maine) scored a diving header from a Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, Maine) redirect to make put the Mariners on the board in the 57th minute. The Terriers held a 17-12 advantage in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corners.
Maine Maritime's Gray picked up six saves in the loss, while John Villanueva added two saves for Thomas in the win.
