CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's Matt Caron (Scarborough, Maine) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Ryan Holmes (Newmarket, N.H.) earned NAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors and Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) was tabbed the NAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.
Caron led the Mariners to two non-conference victories with nine points, including four goals and an assist. The senior forward tallied the game-winning goal in both wins. In the 2-1 win over a tough Bates College opponent, Caron recorded an assist on the first goal of the game and then scored in the 83rd minute to lift the Mariners over the Bobcats, who were ranked in the most recent D3soccer.com poll. Caron then tallied a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Southern Maine.
Holmes was an instrumental member of the Mariners' back line that held opponents to just two goals and 15 shots on goal total in two non-conference games. Holmes helped hold a nationally-ranked Bates College team to just nine shots on goal and one goal. The Bobcats, who were ranked in the most recent D3soccer.com poll, averaged two goals per game coming into the contest.
Gray was impressive in the Mariners' 2-1 win over Bates College, who entered the contest ranked 25th in the most recent D3soccer.com poll. Gray logged 90 minutes of impressive play, collecting eight saves and only allowing one goal to a team that averaged two goals per game entering the matchup.
