Mariners Compete at Maine State Meet

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's and women's swimming battled at the Maine State Meet hosted by Bowdoin College on Friday and Saturday.

The men finished fifth out of the seven teams, with a score of 67, ahead of Saint Joseph's College of Maine and the University of New England. The women placed seventh with a score of 31.

Bates College claimed the victory for the men with a score of 1225, followed by Colby College in second (968.5) and Bowdoin College (624.5) in third.

The Bobcats also claimed the team victory for the women with a score of 1105.5, followed by Bowdoin College in second with 907 and the University of Maine in third, with a team score of 692.

Men's Meet Highlights:

  • Joshua Roberts (Saco, Maine) finished 21st in the 50 yard fly (25.71), the 200 yard back (2:11.96) and the 50 yard fly (25.71)
  • Brad Tibbetts (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) placed 17th in the 50 yard breast (33.10)
  • Ryan Burke (Lyman, Maine) took 16th in the 50 yard back (34.23)
  • The relay team of Roberts, Tibbetts, Andrew Todd (Skowhegan, Maine) and Patrick McEneaney (Suffolk, Va.) placed 10th in the 200 yard medley relay (1:56.35)
  • The relay team of Roberts, McEeaney, Todd and Tibbetts took 10th in the 400 yard free relay (2:51.83)
  • The relay team of Todd, Matthew Link (Sparta, N.J), Bradley Rucker (Enid, Okla.) and Burke also took 10th in the 200 yard free relay
  • McEneaney placed finished fifth in the 1650 yard free (13:10.08) 

Women's Meet Highlights:

  • Micaela Tanguay (Arundel, Maine) took 28th in the 50 yard fly (33.82)
  • Kaitlyn Reny (Lewiston, Maine) placed 34th in the 200 yard IM (34.42), 47th in the 200 yard free (2:26.42) and the 100 yard free (1:05.69)
  • Julie Cavanaugh (Mendon, Mass.) finished 44th in the 50 yard free (30.80)
  • The relay team of Amber Durant (Mansfield, Mass.), Audrey Aragon (Miami, Fla.), Reny and Cavanaugh took 13th in the 200 yard medley relay (2:18.83)
  • Aragon placed 25th in the 100 yard breast (1:29.25) and 64th in the 100 yard IM (1:17.35)
