Men's Cross Country Wins UMPI Invitational

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country placed three runners in the top five, to claim the team victory at Saturday's University of Maine at Presque Isle Invitational.

Freshman Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) led the Mariners in his collegiate debut, finishing second overall on the 6K course with a time of 21:30.4. Sophomore Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) finished just behind in third, with a time of 21:39.0, followed by freshman Liam Veverka (Hancock, N.H.) in fourth with a time of 22:56.7. 

Sophomore Cole Brundige (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) placed eighth with a time of 24:16.3 and junior Keenan Martin (Dixfield, Maine) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners in 11th place with a time of 25:48.5. 

Thomas College's Jarrod Ottman finished first out of the 26 runners, with a time of 20:36.1.

The Mariners return to action next Saturday when they host the Mariner Invitational at the Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, Maine.
