Van Ess Leads Mariners at State of Maine Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country finished 13th at the State of Maine Championship on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Bowdoin College. 

Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) led the Mariners with his 87th place finish out of the 223 runners, completing the course with a time of 28:36.4. Liam Veverka (Hancock, N.H.) placed 109th 29:25.1 followed closely by Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) in 115th place with a time of 29:36.7. Cole Brundige (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) placed 131st and Keenan Martin (Dixfield, Maine) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners in 156th.

Bowdoin College claimed the team victory, led by the first place finisher Sean MacDonald who completed the 8K course in a time of 25:11.2.

The Mariners return to action on October 13 at the Green Mountain Invitational in Poultney, Vermont.
