Hassett Leads Mariners to NVU-Lyndon Invitational Title

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country placed four runners in the top 10 to capture the NVU-Lyndon Invitational title on Saturday.

Reigning North Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week, John Hassett (Castine, Maine) led the Mariners, finishing first overall out of 83 runners on the 6K course with a time of 21:47.6. Freshman Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) finished in fifth place with a time of 24:00.4.

Junior Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) came in seventh with a time of 24:12.6, sophomore Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) was the fourth Mariner to cross the finish line, placing ninth, with a time of 24:27.9 and freshman William Procko (Branford, Fla.) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners in 15th place with a time of 24:48.1.

Maine Maritime took the top team spot with a score of 37, followed by Thomas College with a 70 and Husson University rounded out the top three with a team score of 75.

The Mariners return to action next Saturday, September 14th at the UNE invitational in Biddeford, Maine at 11:30am.
