BIDDEFORD, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country team finished fourth out of 11 teams in the UNE Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore John Hassett (Castine, Maine) led the Mariners finishing in 11th place out of 133 runners on the 8k course, with a time of 26:47.7. Freshman Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) finished in 27th place, with a time 28:43.0.
Sophomore Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished in 31st with a time of 29:12.0. Junior Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) was the fourth Mariner to cross the finish line, placing 34th, with a time of 29:15.2. Sophomore Liam Veverka (Hancock, N.H.) rounded out the Mariners top-five finishers, placing 38th, with a time of 29:57.5.
Trinity College took home first place with a team score of 34, Franklin Pierce finished in second with a score of 41, and the University of New England rounded out the top three teams with a score of 67. Franklin Pierce's Riley Fenoff was the top individual finisher with a time of 25:07.3; five seconds ahead of teammate Hugo Arlabosse who finished in second.
The Mariners return to action at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational next Saturday, September 21st, at 11:15 am.
