Mariners Place Seventh at State of Maine

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country finished seventh out of 13 teams at the State of Maine Championships, hosted by Colby College on Saturday.

Sophomore John Hassett (Castine, Maine) was the top finisher for the Mariners, finishing 41st out of 157 runners on the 8K course, with a time of 28:43.6. Sophomore Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished 52nd with a time of 29:24.6.

Junior Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) came in 58th, with a time of 29:38.8, freshman Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) placed 68th with a time of 29:58.5. Freshman William Procko (Branford, Fla.) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners, placing 89th with a time of 31:28.5.

Bates College placed first with a team score of 34th, Colby College finished seconded with a score of 38th, and Bowdoin College finished third with a score of 89. Colby's Tyler Morris and Eli Decker finished in first with a time of 25:56.8.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday, October 18 when they travel to Boston, to compete in the Suffolk Invitational at 3:30 pm.
