  • Storm Trysail Foundation Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta

    LARCHMONT, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2010)-- Maine Maritime’s sailing team coach Tom Brown decided to pull his team out of all of its dinghy events Columbus Day weekend so that it could instead sail big boats at the Storm Trysail Foundation’s Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (IOR) Presented by Prestige BMW. After driving over eight hours with his 17 athletes, Brown’s strategy paid off, as the team won two of five divisions in the 38-boat fleet. Over 300 sailors from 30 schools participated, making the IOR the largest college sailing regatta in the country.

    Cambridge, MA - Maine Maritime’s sailing team competed at the Charles River Invitational this past Sunday at Harvard. The Mariners placed 5th out of nine teams.
  • Mariners Sailing Places 4th at U.S. Naval Academy

    Maine Maritime Academy competed for the Shields Trophy at the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday and placed fourth out of 10 teams. The Mariners led in two of the four races which featured NAVY 44's.

    Cambridge, MA - The Mariner Sailing team finished in 7th place at the MIT Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The race was part of the Commonwealth Series and took place on the Charles River.

    Castine, ME - The Mariner sailing teams hosted the Pen Bay Open and the Harman Cup regattas this weekend. Roger Williams University won the 420's (Pen Bay) while the Yale Bulldogs won the Harman Cup which featured Colgate 26's.

    The Maine Maritime Academy Varsity Sailing team captured the 1st place title, competing in the Intrepid Regatta. As it has for 3 straight years it came down to a tie breaker among the top four teams: Maine Maritime, SUNY, KP & Navy.
