As the Fall season winds down for MMA Sailors, Mott Blair, David Estes, Ellis Heminway, Olivia Mitchell, Luke Healy, & August Campbell traveled to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Oberg Trophy—the last regatta of the regular season.
The Charles River is a notoriously difficult place to sail—this weekend making no exception. Saturday winds were from the west, and anywhere from 8-15kts. Sailors completed 10 races a piece on day one of racing, with high points seeing Ellis Heminway & August Campbell finishing in a fifth place, and Olivia Mitchell & Luke Healy taking a high of eighth.
Sunday was even trickier, with a cold north wind ranging from 3kts to 30kts at any given moment, and shifts ranging through all the compass points. Despite the difficult conditions, MMA sailors rose to the challenge and actually rose in the rankings, averaging four places higher per race. High points on Sunday saw Mott Blair & David Estes taking seventh.
For the first time since 2008, the Mariners have qualified for the Schell Trophy—the Fall New England Championship, against all New England schools ranked 18th or higher. MMA sailors will travel to Dartmouth next weekend to finish out the Fall Season.
