Maine Maritime Academy Sailing sent teams to Dartmouth College and Bates College this weekend.
Sam Buchanan, Haley Kent, Griffen Horne, Brooke Macierowski, and Ben Jacobs formed an all-freshman crew that traveled to Auburn, Maine for the Protest Trophy on Sunday. A light breeze on Sunday made for consistent conditions that allowed the Mariners to place third overall. Horne and Jacobs finished first overall while Buchanan and Kent placed fifth.
Mott Blair, Natalie Samuels, Courtney King, and Alex Drago represented the Mariners at the Hewitt Trophy in Enfield, N.H. Despite frosty morning conditions and being one of the few teams who does not sail inland the Mariners found success with the light winds on Saturday. Blair and Samuels were the top duo to finish for the Mariners in 10th place, while Drago and King placed 12th. Sunday brought brought much higher winds which caused the Mariners to struggle to find boat speed throughout the day and finished 16th overall on the weekend.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, October 12th, and Sunday October 13th, when they travel to Larchmont, New York to to compete in the Inter-Collegiate Offshore Regatta and to the University of Vermont to compete in the Callagy Ross Trophy.
