CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a 59-47 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over SUNY Canton on Friday night at Stan Cohen Court.
How it Happened: The Roos jumped out to a 4-0 lead and hung on to a slight advantage until late in the second quarter when Emily Melick (Sudbury, Mass.) hit a three to give the Mariners a 30-28 lead. The two teams entered halftime deadlocked at 30-30.
The Mariners came out strong in the third quarter, and took their biggest lead of the game (51-37) with 1:07 to go in the third. Maine Maritime outscored the Roos in the final quarter to pick up the conference victory.
Inside the Numbers: Morgan Boudreau (Benton, Maine) scored a career and game-high 15 points, on all three-pointers, to lead the Mariners. Boudreau also added three rebounds and a block.
Breanna Cullers led the Kangaroos with 12 points and two rebounds, while Autumn Watkins and Billie Rivenburgh contributed 10 points each. Watkins also added five rebounds and an assist while Rivenburgh added three rebounds and a steal.
The Mariners shot 35.6 percent from the floor, while Canton shot 37 percent, but the Mariners held a 35-33 edge in rebounds.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 8-3 on the season and 3-0 in the conference, while the Roos drop to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the NAC. The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
