WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a 67-52 non-conference victory over Colby College on Tuesday night inside of Wadsworth Gym.
How it Happened: The two teams battled closely in the first quarter, but the Mariners came out strong in the second to close out the half up, 26-20.
Colby battled back in the third quarter and hung with the Mariners, but the visitors shot 77.8 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter and outscored the Mules 24-15 in the final 10 minutes to claim the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) and Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Mariners with 14 points and three rebounds each, McLean chipped in with a steal and Felix added an assist. Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) contributed 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Paige Russell led the Mules with 13 points, two rebounds, an assist and a block, Keagan Dunbar tallied 11 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal and Katie McCrum added 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
The Mariners shot 47.8 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from three-point land, while the Mules shot 30.2 percent and 30.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Mules fall to 6-9 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, January 19 when they host UMaine-Presque Isle at 4:00 pm.
