CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a 65-50 win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and took a 32-22 lead into halftime, to cruise to the 65-50 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with 21 points, four rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal, Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) added 14 points, five rebounds and five steals, while Emily Melick (Sudbury, Mass.) contributed six rebounds to go along with four points, and one block off the bench. Maureen Stanton (Abington, Mass.) tallied a game-high five assists to go with 10 points, two rebounds and a steal.
Alisha Celley led the Hornets with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Lea Crompton added 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Mariners shot 41.1 percent from the floor while the Hornets shot 39.5 percent overall. The Mariners held a 35-27 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the NAC, while the Hornets fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, December 14, when they host Saint Joseph's College of Maine at 2:00 pm for a non-conference matchup.
