Maine Maritime in Season Openers: The Mariners are 1-2 all-time in season openers. Last season the Mariner defeated SUNY Maritime for their first-ever season opening victory.

Maine Maritime in Home Openers: The Mariners are also 1-2 in home openers. 

Series History: The Wildcats hold a 2-0 advantage over the Mariners, and are 1-0 when playing in Castine. 

Last Meeting: Wheelock College defeated Maine Maritime 17-6, last season on April 29, 2017.

The Wildcats jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first half. The Mariners scored two early goals in the second half to cut the deficit to 8-4, but Wheelock hung on for the victory.

Briana Obshatkin led the Mariners with four goals and one assist, while scooping up four ground balls, tallying three draw controls and a caused turnover. Julia Dillon (Norway, Maine) and Bethany Pare added the other goals for the Mariners. Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) led Maine Maritime with three caused turnovers, Haley Eckert tallied a team-high four draw controls, and Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) scooped up a team-leading five ground balls.

Colleen Macdonald led the Wildcats with seven goals and two assists, while scooping up five ground balls, causing two turnovers and tallying a draw control. Alexah Mellis scored four goals, Katie Frade net a hat trick, while leading the team with five draw controls and scooped up five ground balls and Georgia Schindele added two goals and two assists. Gabrielle Haywood led Wheelock with four caused turnovers. 

In net, Wilson tallied 13 saves in the loss, while Wheelock's Meghan Lewis stopped 10 shots in net in the victory.

The Mariners: Sierra James returns for her junior season after ranking third in the NAC last season in goals allowed, while sophomore Madison Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) returns after leading the Mariners in assists last season.

Last season the Mariners averaged 8.71 goals, 24.9 shots and 8.00 draw controls per game. The team averages 34.3 percent on free position opportunities and allowed opponents to scored 9.57 goals per game.

The Wildcats: Wheelock College returns their leading goal scorer, Colleen Macdonald. Macdonald led the team with 64 goals and 10 assists last season. Katie Frade returns for her senior season after leading the Wildcats with 63 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers. Alex Clark returns for her senior campaign after leading the team with 53 draw controls. 

Wheelock will see a new face in net this season, as Erin Siora will replace graduating senior Meghan Lewis.

In 2017, the Wildcats averaged 11.88 goals, 24.2 shots and 9.41 draw controls per game. The team also averaged 80.8 on free position opportunities and allowed 8.27 goals per game.
