BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 16-2 on Friday night in non-conference action at Clean Harbors Stadium in the first day of the Maritime Classic.
How it Happened: Massachusetts Maritime went on a three-goal run to open up the game, before Madison Savary (Bath, Maine) put the Mariners on the board with an unassisted goal at 20:10. The Buccaneers added six more goals in the first half to take a 9-1 lead into halftime.
Massachusetts Maritime scored seven goals in the second half to take the 16-2 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Savary added a goal and Olivia Le Blanc (Conifer, Colo.) added the other goal for the Mariners, Le Blanc led the Mariners with two caused turnovers, and goalie Sydney Cole (Westbrook, Maine) added a team-best five ground balls while making nine saves.
Anna Deely led the Buccaneers with six goals, six draw controls and two ground balls, while goalie Laura Kleber made five saves in the win.
The Buccaneers won the battle of the ground balls 28-20 and draw controls 12-7.
Up Next: With the loss the Mariners fall to 0-1 overall, while the Buccaneers improve to 1-1 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action on tomorrow, Saturday, March 9 when they take on SUNY Maritime at Mass. Maritime at 3:30 pm.
