CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse picked up their first victory of the season with a decisive 18-1 victory over NVU-Lyndon on Sunday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
How it Happened: The Mariners scored six goals in the first six minutes, led by two goals from Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) and never looked back, taking a 13-0 lead into halftime and claiming the 18-1 win.
Inside the Numbers: Madison Savary (Bath, Maine) led the Mariners with five goals and an assist, while Adams finished the afternoon with four goals and two assists and Olivia Le Blanc (Conifer, Colo.) added four goals.
Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) and Madison Barry (Stoneham, Maine) added two goals each, Wilson contributed an assist and a game-high seven ground balls while Barry chipped in with a team-high three assists and Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) added the other goal of the Mariners.
Felisha Olmstead tallied the Hornets' lone goal, Bayla Stewart led the team with four ground balls and Michaela Columbia recorded a team-high four draw controls and two caused turnovers. In net, Zoe Pierce-Olhson tallied seven saves in the loss.
The Mariners dominated ground balls 28-11 and held an 11-10 edge in draw controls.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 1-3 overall, while the Hornets fall to 0-4 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, March 27 when they host UMaine-Farmington at 5:00 pm.
The two teams will square off again on April 20 for a North Atlantic Conference game at NVU-Lyndon.
