FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to UMaine-Farmington 12-4, on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal matchup at Prescott Field.
With the loss the third-seeded Mariners conclude their season at 5-7 overall, while the second seed Beavers improve to 8-8 overall and advance to the NAC Championship game against top-seeded SUNY Canton.
How it Happened: The two teams battled closely early in the first half until the Beavers outscored the Mariners 5-1 in the final ten minutes to take a 7-2 advantage into halftime.
Farmington added two early goals in the second half to hold a 9-2 lead with 26:44 to go, but a goal from Maine Maritime's Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) made it 9-3. The Beavers outscored the Mariners 3-1 in the final 20 minutes to claim the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led the Mariners with two goals, five ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Wilson and Julia Dillon (Norway, Maine) tallied the other goals for the Mariners. Wilson added a team-best six ground balls to go along with three draw controls, while Dillon chipped in with five ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers.
In net, Sydney Cole (Westbrook, Maine) stopped three shots in the loss, while scooping up four ground balls.
Isabella Monbouquette led the Beavers with four goals, two assists, two caused turnovers and a ground ball and Samantha Cross added three goals, five ground balls, four draw controls and a caused turnover. Farmington's Heather Boland made eight saves to earn the win in net.
The Beavers edged the Mariners in ground balls, 35-33 and draw controls, 11-6.
