SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy's Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) won the poster contest at this year's Northeast Natural History Conference.
James made her presentation on Sunday, April 14, just one day after competing on the field for the Maine Maritime women's lacrosse team in their game against Thomas College. In that game, James scored the goal that sparked a six-goal second half run for the Mariners, setting them up for victory.
At the conference, James wowed the judges with her poster entitled "Cardiac response of Carcinus maenas and Cancer irroratus under acute hypoxia exposure".
A two-sport athlete, James also led the Maine Maritime women's cross country team this season, earning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Second Team honors as the team's top finisher at the NAC Championship Race and was named the NAC Women's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.
