PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Little was decided after 110 minutes of soccer at Park Family Field on Saturday. Maine Maritime's women battled Maine-Presque Isle to a 1-1 draw in non-conference play.
The Mariners (1-3-1) got a dozen saves from Taylor O'Malley, including five in the second half and one in the second overtime, while her counterpart, Amanda Larrabee posted 10 saves for the Owls (2-2-1). The bulk of her work came late in the contest with five second-half stops and two in each overtime period.
The keepers' numbers reflected the statistical dead-heat of the game. UMPI got 23 shots off to Maine Maritime's 20. The Mariners' pressure produced four corners to the Owls pair. Annie Koensgen produced the lone goal of the afternoon for Maine Maritime. The senior scored her second goal of the season, striking from 35-yards out midway through the 41st minute. Larrabee challenged the advance, but couldn't keep the handle as it slipped through the wickets and into the net.
Maine Maritime took the lead into the break, but couldn't make it stand up. Chelsea Nickerson tallied an unassisted marker at 62:34 to set up the fruitless extra minutes. The draw came eight days after the Mariners handed UMPI a 3-0 setback at Husson.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Sunday at Maine Fort-Kent.
