CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Gordon College, 4-1 on Saturday afternoon on Ritchie Field.
Jill Kefalas put the Fighting Scots on the board in the ninth minute on an unassisted goal, and teammate Asha Steele added a score in the 24th minute to give Gordon a 2-0 lead.
Steele added her second goal of the game on an assist from Kefalas. Under two minutes later Devin Lacroix added a goal to give the Fighting Scots a 4-0 lead.
Maine Maritime's Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) added her fourth goal of the season to cut Gordon's lead to 4-1, but the early deficit proved to be too much and the Fighting Scots hung on for the victory.
Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) tallied eight saves in the loss for the Mariners, while Gordon's Kali Denty recorded three saves in the win.
The Mariners fall to 1-1 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, September 5 when they host Bates College at 6:00 pm on Ritchie Field.
