Strong Second Half Lifts Bowdoin Over Mariners

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College scored three goals in the second half to pick up a 3-2 win over Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer on Thursday night in non-conference action.

Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) put the Mariners on the board in the 14th minute on an unassisted goal. The Mariners maintained the 1-0 lead until Lynn Farquhar tied the game at 1-1 in the 63rd minute. Less than two minutes later, Bowdoin took the lead on a goal from Claudette Proctor.

In the 68th minute Ana Lozada-Smith gave the Polar Bears an insurance goal on a pass from Lizzie Sands.

Lewis cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 88th minute on a penalty kick, but Bowdoin hung on for the victory.

Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) stopped 12 shots in the loss, including a Bowdoin penalty kick in the 46th minute, while Rachel Stout stopped three shots in net for the Polar Bears.

The Mariners fall to 2-8 overall while Bowdoin improves to 4-2-1 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action this Saturday when they host Johnson State College for a North Atlantic Conference matchup at 3:30 pm.
