CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer defeated Lyndon State College 3-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Sunday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
The Mariners dominated ball control and heavily pressured the Hornets in the first half logging 18 shots, including 11 shots on goal, in the first 45 minutes of play but didn't get on the board until the 25th minute when Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) passed a ball ahead to teammate Allison Boulier (Bangor, Maine). Boulier used from fancy footwork to dribble around her defender and snuck a hard hit ball into net past Lyndon's keeper Johanna Sargent.
The Mariners took their 1-0 lead into the 53rd minute when Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) added her seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0. DeFrank added a goal of her own in the 69th minute when Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) passed a ball ahead and DeFrank placed a high ball perfectly over the keeper and into the net.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) earned the victory in net with one save, while Sargent stopped 12 shots in the loss for the Hornets.
The Mariners improve to 4-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while the Hornets drop to 0-8-1 on the season and a 0-4-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, October 7 when they host in-state conference rival, Husson University at 1:00 pm.
