CASTLETON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Castleton University, 5-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) put the Mariners on the board in the 11th minute on a cross from teammate Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.), but the Spartans answered in the 15th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
The Spartans took a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute on a goal from Julia Carone.
Carone scored in the opening minute of the second half to give Castleton a 3-1 lead and Rylee Nichols added to the Spartans' lead in the 61st minute.
Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) cut Castleton's lead to 4-2 in the 66th minute but Nichols added another goal in the 85th minute to secure the victory for the Spartans.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) tallied three saves in the loss, while Castleton's Kiley Baran recorded three stops in the victory.
The Mariners fall to 6-10 overall and 4-4 in the NAC, while the Spartans improve to 8-7-1 on the season and 7-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime remains on the road to take on Green Mountain College tomorrow at 12:30 pm for their final game of the regular season.
