CASTINE, Maine – Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) scored her first-career hat trick to lead Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer over Unity College. 8-0, on Friday night in the season opener for both teams, on Ritchie Field.
With the win the Mariners improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Rams fall to 0-1 overall. Maine Maritime travels to Bates College on Tuesday, September 4 for a non-conference matchup at 8:00 pm.
Doiron put the Mariners on the board first in the 20th minute when she tallied an unassisted score. Kelsea Anair (Richmond, Maine) put the Mariners up 2-0 in the 23rd minute on a long strike and Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) added her first career-goal to put the Mariners up 3-0 heading into halftime.
MacKenzie Carter (Ashland, Maine) added her first-career goal just one minute into the second half and Doiron added her second goal of the game in the 50th minute. Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) added her first goal of the season in the 61st minute to make it 6-0. Doiron secured the hat trick when teammate Jillian Holden's (Madison, Maine) shot repelled off the cross bar found her wide open in front of the net. Autumn Acord (Richmond, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Mariners on an assist from Anair.
Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) earned the victory in net for the Mariners, going untested in the first half and Sarah Cantwell got tabbed with the loss for the Rams, stopping 17 shots.
The Mariners dominated all statistical categories outshooting the Rams 37-0 and taking three corner kicks, while the Rams took none.
