DUDLEY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer shutout Nichols College, 4-0 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.
With the victory the Mariners improve to 3-1-0 on the season, while the Bison drop to 1-2-1. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, September 15 when they open up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at UMaine-Farmington at 1:00 pm.
Senior Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) put the Mariners on the board in the 15th minute, with her fifth goal of the season, on an assist from freshman Lauren Wood (Vassalboro, Maine). Junior Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) added her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute on a pass from Lewis.
Freshman Jillian Holden (Madison, Maine) added her second goal of the season late in the first half, on an assist from Lewis, to send the Mariners into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Freshman Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) scored a goal in the 56th minute, her second of the season, to close out the scoring for the Mariners.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) turned away all six shots she faced in net in the victory, while Nichols' Brooke Downey tallied two saves in the loss, playing in net for the first half.
Nichols held a 17-16 edge in shots, while the Mariners held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
