WATERVILLE, Maine – McKenna Brodeur scored in the 17th minute to lift the third-seeded UMaine-Farmington Beavers over the second-seeded Maine Maritime Academy Mariners on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal action at Smith Field.
With the loss the Mariners fall to 11-4-1 on the season, and end their bid for a NAC Championship, while the Beavers improve to 7-12 overall and will take on top-seed Thomas College tomorrow in the Championship game at 2:00 pm.
Brodeur headed in the game-winner, when a high pass from outside the box bounced off a defender and found her for the score.
The Mariners outshot the Beavers 8-5 over the course of the 90 minutes, but could not find the equalizer.
Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) led the Mariners offensively with two shots on goal.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) made two saves in the loss, while Farmington's Callie Hammer collected four saves in the victory.
