CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer picked up their second-consecutive shutout, defeating SUNY Maritime 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Maritime Cup on Ritchie Field.
Laura Blue (Brisbane, Australia) put the Mariners on the board in the fifth minute and Kelsey Bern (Castle Rock, Wash.) tallied back-to-back goals, the first of her career, to make it 3-0 at 26:32. Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) picked up her first goal of the game on a pass from teammate Brigette Olearcek (Little Cranberry Island, Maine), late in the first half to send the Mariners into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
Doiron kicked off the second half with an unassisted goal and then dished out an assist to teammate Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) to make it 6-0. Suzanne Wooldridge (Corona, Calif.) tallied her first career goal in the 79th minute, and Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) got in on the scoring in the 85th minute.
Maine Maritime's Bess MacArthur (Castine, Maine) earned her first collegiate win in net, collecting one save in over 63 minutes of action, and SUNY's Lizzie Pomaro stopped 14 shots in the loss.
The Mariners outshot the Privateers 31-3 overall and landed 22 shots on net, while SUNY only landed one shot on net.
The Mariners improve to 2-2 overall, while the Privateers fall to 2-1. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 14 when they host Husson University in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener and Friends/Family/Alumni Day at 3:30 pm.
