CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer opened up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 3-0 win against Husson University on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
Suzanne Wooldridge (Corona, Calif.) put the Mariners ahead 1-0 early on a corner kick in the sixth minute that was mishandled by Husson's goalie Shie Smith. Kelsea Anair (Richmond, Maine) found Kelsey Bern (Castle Rock, Wash.) with a through ball in 28th minute for Bern's third goal of the season, giving the Mariners a 2-0 first half lead.
Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) tallied a late goal in the 88th minute, pushing the lead to 3-0 and ultimately sealing the win for the Mariners.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) stopped all three shots she faced to earn the shutout victory, while Husson's Shie Smith made seven saves in the loss.
With the win the Mariners improve to 3-2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the conference, while the Eagles fall to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, September 21 when they travel to SUNY Delhi for a 3:30pm NAC matchup.
