CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer defeated Unity College, 7-0 on Monday night in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
The Mariners improve to 5-2 overall with their fourth shutout of the season and return to action on Saturday when they travel to UMaine-Farmington for a rematch of last year's North Atlantic Conference Semifinals at 3:30 pm. Unity falls to 0-5.
Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) tallied her first goal of the game in the ninth minute, on a pass from teammate Kelsey Bern (Castle Rock, Wash.) and just 65 seconds later Laura Blue (Brisbane, Australia) picked up her fifth goal of the season.
Bern added a goal of her own in the 21st minute and Doiron tallied her second goal of the game in the 23rd minute, to send the Mariners into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
Gabbie Guinto (Hampstead, N.H.) tallied her first career goal to start the second half and Suzanne Wooldridge (Corona, Calif.) picked up her third goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Bess MacArthur (Castine, Maine) scored her first career goal on a perfect cross from MacKenzie Carter (Ashland, Maine), her second assist of the game, to send the Mariners to the 7-0 win.
Starting in goal, MacArthur earned the win for over 36 minutes of shutout action for the Mariners, and Sarah Cantwell tallied 13 saves in the loss for Unity.
The Mariners dominated all statistical categories, taking 37 shots and 13 corner kicks, while the Rams only tallied two shots.
