CASTINE, Maine – Senior Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and dished out an assist on the insurance goal in the 74th minute to lead Maine Maritime women's soccer to a 2-0 victory over SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Ritchie Field.
With their fifth shutout of the season, the Mariners improve to 7-2-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the NAC, while the Roos drop to 3-7-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday, October 12 when they host Northern Vermont-Lyndon at 3:00 pm.
The Mariners outshot Canton 8-1 in the first half, but the two teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
After a Canton handball in the box, Doiron scored the eventual game-winner when she beat Victoria Hanna for her 12th goal of the season. Doiron connected with teammate Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) later in the second half, to give the Mariners the 2-0 victory.
Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) earned her fifth win in net, while Canton's Hanna turned away seven shots in the loss.
Overall, the Mariners outshot the Roos 17-1 and took five corner kicks, while the Roos took one.
