Swimming Makes a Splash in First-Ever Home Meet; Men Win!

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy swimming hosted Western Connecticut State University and Plymouth State University on Wednesday night at Bok Pool.

The men's team faced off against the Colonials, picking up the 92-81 victory in the team's first-ever home meet. The women's team fell to the Colonials 107-55 and the Panthers 145-46.

Men's Meet Highlights:

  • The relay team of Joshua Roberts (Saco, Maine), Matthew Link (Sparta, N.J.), Brad Tibbetts (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) and Miles Schoenberg (Seattle, Wash.) took first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:56.74)
  • Patrick McEneaney (Suffolk, Va.) claimed first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle (54.74) and 200 Yard Freestyle (2:03.64) by one hundredth of a second
  • Tibbetts took first in the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.58) and the 100 Yard IM (1:02.48)
  • Andrew Todd (Skowhegan, Maine) claimed the victory in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:13.26)
  • Liam Naturale (Dingman's Ferry, Pa.) took first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:06.42)
  • Roberts finished first in the 50 Yard Butterfly (25.55)
  • The relay team of McEneaney, Schoenberg, Tibbetts and Roberts claimed the victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay

Women's Meet Highlights:

  • Amber Durant (Mansfield, Mass.) placed second in the 50 Yard Backstroke (35.17) and third in the 100 yard Backstroke (1:20.58)
  • Kaitlyn Reny (Lewiston, Maine) took second in the 100 Yard Freestyle (1:04.61) and  finished third in the 100 Yard IM (1:14.68)
  • The relay team of Reny, Julie Cavanaugh (Mendon, Mass.), Alesha Gregoire (Lewiston, Maine) and Durant took second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (2:00.57)

Up Next: The Mariners will return to Bok Pool on Monday, January 21 at 5:00 pm against Saint Joseph's College of Maine for Senior Night.
