Volleyball Falls to USM and St. Joe's

GORHAM, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy volleyball fell to Southern Maine, 3-1 and Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 3-2 on Saturday in non-conference action. 

Southern Maine 3 – Maine Maritime 1 (30-28, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20) 

The Huskies edged the Mariners 30-28 in the first set but the Mariners fought back to earn the 25-23 win in set two. The Huskies took the match win 3-1, with victories in the fourth and fifth set.

Sophomore Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) led the Mariners with 15 kills, four blocks, three digs and two aces, while freshman Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs and added a block and an ace. Sophomore Maggie MacMahon (Boise, Idaho) chipped in with 10 kills, six digs, and a block and sophomore Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led the team with 39 assists. Sophomore Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led the match with 18 digs.

Jessica Williamson led the Huskies with a double-double of 17 kills and 10 digs and teammate Mo Raymond added a double-double of her own with 11 digs and 10 kills. Mariah Garcia led the team with 16 digs, and Nicole Schmitz led Southern Maine with 42 assists.

Saint Joseph's (Maine) 3 – Maine Maritime 2 (25-20, 14-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9)

The Monks came back from a 2-1 deficit to take the final two sets and the 3-2 victory. 

Jessica D'Auria led the Mariners with 18 kills, five digs, five blocks and four aces, while Alexa Cacacie tallied 12 kills, four digs, four aces and two blocks. Sydney Adams tallied a double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs, and also added four kills and three aces. Maria Perez led the Mariners with 22 digs and added six aces and four assists. 

Kelsey Bickford led the Monks with 13 kills, teammate Jordynne Coop added 10 kills and Sarah Dyer added a double-double with 32 assists and 13 digs. Jennelle Thompson led all players with 28 digs. 

The Mariners fall to 1-2 on the season, and will return to action Wednesday night at Colby College in a non-conference match at 7:00 pm.
