CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball defeated Unity College 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-15) on Wednesday night in non-conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
With the win, the Mariners improve to a perfect 20-0 all-time against the Rams in a rivalry that dates back to 2003.
The Mariners jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first set, led by multiple aces by Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), and claimed the 25-17 victory. The Mariners secured a decisive 25-11 victory in the second set and cruised to a 25-15 win in the final set to take the 3-0 match victory.
Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) led the Mariners with 11 kills, four digs, two aces and two blocks, while Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a match-high 30 assists, and added three digs, two aces, two blocks and a kill, and Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led all players with 19 digs and added a pair of aces. D'Auria concluded the night with a career-high six aces, and added six kills and two digs.
Lindsey Morris led the Rams with nine digs, two aces and a kill and teammate Mikayla Twiss tallied eight digs, four assists, and a kill.
The Mariners improve to 8-5 overall while the Rams drop to 4-6 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday when they travel to Connecticut to take on the University of Saint Joseph's for a 7:00 pm non-conference match.
