CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball fell to Bates College 3-1 on Tuesday night in non-conference action inside of Smith Gym.
The Bobcats picked up a 25-15 victory in the first set and narrowly escaped with a 25-20 victory in the second set. The Mariners battled back to take a 25-19 win in the third set, but the Bobcats took the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.
Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.), Maggie MacMahon (Boise, Idaho), and Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the Mariners with 11 kills each, while D'Auria tallied a double-double adding 10 digs. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded a double-double of her own, with a team-high 29 assists and 10 digs, while also contributing eight kills, two blocks and an ace. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tallied a team-best 15 digs, while adding an ace and an assist.
Taylor Stafford-Smith led the Bobcats with 15 kills, three blocks and two digs, teammate Gabie Eustache added a team-high 15 digs and Jacqueline Forney chipped in with a match-high 37 assists.
The Mariners fall to 10-7 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 5-5 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action this Saturday, September 30, when they open up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at Johnson State. The Mariners take on Lyndon at 12:00 pm and the hosting Badgers at 4:00 pm.
