CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball fell in a tough non-conference battle to Colby College 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-22, 25-21) on Tuesday night inside of Smith Gym.
The Mariners took the first set 25-21, but the Mules fought back to take the next three sets for the victory.
Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) led the Mariners with 12 kills, and also added two blocks, one ace, one assist and a dig. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a double-double of 29 assists and 12 digs, while also adding three blocks, two kills and two aces. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led all players with 26 digs and also added two aces and two assists.
Paige Hanssen led the Mules with 14 kills and 14 digs, and also added two blocks, two aces and an assist. Molly Manuel tallied a team-high 19 assists, while also adding two digs and a kill. Elizabeth Middlebrook added 11 kills and eight digs, while Mae Safransky chipped in with 10 digs.
The Mariners fall to 18-12 on the season, while the Mules improve to 6-14 overall. Maine Maritime Academy returns to action on Friday, November 3 when they host the North Atlantic Conference semifinals beginning at 6:00 pm.
