CASTINE, Maine -- For the second time this season, Maine Maritime Academy's Alexa Cacacie (Mahahawkin, N.J.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Volleyball Player of the Week and Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named the NAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Player of the Week - Alexa Cacacie, Maine Maritime
Cacacie led the Mariners to a perfect 4-0 week totaling 53 kills (3.79 k/s), while hitting .325 to go along with 13 aces (0.93 sa/s), 11 digs (0.79 d/s), and eight blocks (0.57 b/s) in 14 sets of play. In the Mariners 3-0 win over Husson, the sophomore recorded nine kills, two aces, two digs and one block. In the Eighth Annual Maritime Classic, she led the Mariners with double-digits kills in each of the three matches, earning Tournament MVP honors. Against SUNY Maritime, the middle hitter had 18 kills, four digs, three blocks and four aces. Against a tough Merchant Marine team, she had 16 kills, three digs, two blocks and two aces and in the final match of the week she totaled 10 kills, five aces, two blocks and two digs against Massachusetts Maritime.
Defensive Player of the Week - Maria Perez, Maine Maritime
Perez helped lead the Mariners to a perfect 4-0 week totaling 74 digs (5.29 d/s), five service aces (0.36 sa/s) and three assists. In the Mariners' 3-0 win over Husson, the sophomore led all players with 24 digs while adding one assist. In the Mariners' 3-1 win over SUNY Maritime, Perez once again led all players with 18 digs, and added two aces. In a 3-1 win against Merchant Marine, the libero tallied a match-high 26 digs and added a pair of aces and an assist. In a 3-0 win over Massachusetts Maritime, she had six digs, one ace and one assist.
