CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy's Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Week, while Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named the NAC Defensive Player of the Week and Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) has been named the NAC Rookie of the Week.
Player of the Week - Alexa Cacacie, Maine Maritime
For the third time this season Cacacie has been named the NAC Player of the Week. Cacacie appeared in four matches for the Mariners this week, leading the team to a 3-1 record, including a perfect 3-0 record against NAC opponents to give the Mariners the top seed in the upcoming NAC Championship Tournament. The sophomore middle hitter totaled 34 kills (2.62 k/s), 12 aces (0.92 sa/s), nine blocks (0.69 b/s) and six digs (0.92 d/s), while hitting .341 on the week. In the Mariners' 3-0 win over Husson, Cacacie had nine kills and one block. Against New England College, she had nine aces, eight kills, two digs and a block. In the Mariners' 3-1 win over Colby-Sawyer, she had five kills, three blocks, two aces, and one dig. Against tough non-conference opponent UMaine-Fort Kent, Cacacie led the team with 12 kills, while adding four blocks, three digs and an ace.
Defensive Player of the Week - Maria Perez, Maine Maritime
For the fourth time this season Perez has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Perez helped lead the Mariners to a 3-2 week, including a unblemished 3-0 week against NAC opponents to claim the No. 1 seed in the NAC Tournament. Over the five matches, Perez totaled 87 digs (5.12 d/s), nine assists (0.53 a/s), eight aces (0.47 sa/s) and two kills. In the Mariners' 3-0 win over Husson, the sophomore had seven digs, three aces, two assists and a kill. On Saturday, she tallied 21 digs, one assist and one ace against NEC, and followed that up with 22 digs, four assists and one ace against Colby-Sawyer. To end the week in two matches against a tough UMaine-Fort Kent team, Perez recorded 37 digs, three aces, two assists and one kill.
Rookie of the Week - Jessica D'Auria, Maine Maritime
For the third time this season D'Auria has been named the NAC Rookie of the Week. D'Auria helped lead Maine Maritime to a 3-2 week, including a perfect 3-0 record against NAC opponents en route to clinching the top seed in the NAC Championship Tournament. The freshman totaled 43 kills (2.53 k/s), 42 digs (2.47 d/s), 12 aces (0.71 sa/s), and two assists over the five matches. In the Mariners' 3-0 win over Husson, she tallied seven digs, five kills and four aces. Against New England College she just missed a double-double with nine kills, nine digs, two aces and an assist. In a 3-1 win over Colby-Sawyer she tallied a double-double with 14 digs, 13 kills, three aces and an assist. To end the week in a double-header with UMaine-Fort Kent, D'Auria had 12 digs, 16 kills, and three aces.
