Volleyball Raises $1,151 for UNICEF and the People of Puerto Rico

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy volleyball raised $1,151 for UNICEF to benefit the people of Puerto Rico devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

In late September, the island of Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Mass flooding put families throughout the island at risk. Maine Maritime volleyball's very own Maria, Maria Perez, calls this beautiful island home, and her entire family resides there.

Following the devastating storms, Maine Maritime Academy volleyball decided to collect donations for UNICEF, a United States-based charity that works to support children in need around the world.

The Mariners collected donations over eight matches, including the North Atlantic Conference Tournament. During the two-day NAC Tournament the Mariners raised $789 alone.
