CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy swept a pair of non-conference matches against the University of New England and Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon inside of Smith Gymnasium.
Maine Maritime improves to 3-0 overall and will travel to Colby College on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm.
Maine Maritime Academy 3 – University of New England 0 (28-26, 25-12, 25-22)
The Mariners edged the Nor'Easters (1-2) in a competitive first set, 28-26 and then picked up a decisive 25-12 victory in set two. The third set was closely contested but the Mariners came away with the 25-22 victory to claim the match victory.
Freshman Rachel Melampy (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Mariners with another double-double, this time with 17 kills and 16 digs and also added two blocks and an ace. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led all players with 21 digs and added two aces and an assist, while Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added 13 digs and five kills and Avery O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) chipped in with 12 digs, three kills and an ace. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a match-high 30 assists while also contributing nine digs, four aces and a kill.
Rene Roggenbuck led the Nor'Easters (0-3) with five kills, Katie Flynn tallied a team-best 17 digs, while Katie Marsh led the way with 15 digs, and Sydney Christiansen recorded 15 assists.
Maine Maritime Academy 3 – Saint Joseph's College of Maine 0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-22)
The Mariners picked up the first-ever three-set victory over Saint Joseph's in program history.
Melampy once again led the Mariners with a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs, while adding an ace and a block. Perez led the match with 13 kills, while also tallying three assists and Adams recorded a match-high 31 assists, while also recording seven digs, six kills and two aces.
Erin Olson led the Monks with five kills and a dig, Jennelle Thompson led the team with eight digs and Sophia Randall tallied a team-best seven assists.
